The following calendar is updated each month so please check back. To sign up please click on the relevant course or session to be directed to our online application form.
Programmes are sent out the week before the session and sessions which attract less than 6 governors will be cancelled. ALL of our governor training courses are held at Causton Street (map).

AUTUMN TERM ~ 2008:

Mon 22 Sept. 2pm - 4pm Clerking governing bodies ~ for new(ish) Clerks. A comprehensive consideration of the key role and responsibilities of the clerk to the governing body.
Weds 1 Oct. 2pm - 4pm How Building Projects are funded. A journey of discovery through the sea of the various sources of funding available for building projects at VA schools, plus the new arrangements for devolved formula capital (DFC).
Thur 9 Oct. 10am - 12 noon Admissions. All schools should look at their admissions policy on an annual basis. If there are any changes proposed these must be consulted on and agreement of the LDBS sought. This session will give governors an opportunity to look at their admissions policy in the light of the new Code of Practice and Rulings by the Adjudicator.
Thur 16 Oct. 10am - 12 noon New(ish) Governors. This session will enable those who have recently been appointed to understand the role of governing bodies in the education system, what is expected of them and how they can carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Mon 10 Nov. 2pm - 4pm Making the Most of Governor Visits to Schools. It is accepted good practice for governors to visit their schools on a regular basis. In order to ensure that these visits are as informative and useful as possible, it is important that governing bodies have a clear understanding of their purpose and an agreed working relationship with the school.
This session will explore the do’s and don’ts of governor visits to schools, as well as share good practice and examine further the protocol underwriting effective visits.
Wed 19 Nov. 2pm - 4pm Admissions. Repeat of Thur 9 Oct above.
Wed 3 Dec. 10am - 12 noon Monitoring School Data: This session will look at the new guidelines/information out in November that can be found in RAISE online as well as expected pupil progress.
It will help you interpret the data in order to support school improvement and will also talk you through the extra pupil level information that can be accessed by headteachers.
